The Range Agriculture committee has had a number of ideas related to regional agriculture concerns, growth, marketing and development. A main focus of the group is to determine how locally grown produce can be made available at schools, hospitals, nursing homes, restaurants or retail outlets. Another issue is how to best introduce healthy food choices to our younger generations. A workforce related topic being discussed is how to encourage younger generations to consider farming as a career. Additional topics are expanding the pool of growers and producers to ensure enough product for the market and determining what economic development actions need to be taken to have a USDA inspector available, which would allow for development of a certified processing plant for locally raised cattle, chickens and pork.
